Vrbas

VRBAS

Although this river doesn’t have any commercial zones, the wild section in the canyon between Banja Luka and Jajce offers such terrains and is so rich in native wild fish of enormous sizes. Besides Grayling, Brown Trout, and Danube Salmon, on these terrains, we successfully fish for enormous Barbel, Chub, Ide, and Rudd. The river is of medium size, with incredible meanders, eddies, and depths exceeding 10 meters. Although it’s wild water without a C&R regime (with restrictions on the number of caught fish and, more importantly, anglers’ awareness, especially fly fishermen, of returning fish), Vrbas boasts trophy specimens, grayling over 50 cm, trout over 10 kg, Danube Salmon over 20 kg, and Barbel over 6-7 kg. It wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t offer you this river; if it weren’t dammed and didn’t have problems with water level fluctuations, it would surely have one of the best fishing zones in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In its current state, I’ll offer it as a wild card, especially in July, August, and September, when other rivers struggle with water levels. During this time, Vrbas is ideal, with almost no fluctuations, and its proximity to Ribnik and Pliva makes it perfect for a one-day visit. Considering I spend up to 150 days a year on this river, I know I can pleasantly surprise you. Its wild fish and untouched nature in the canyon part won’t leave you indifferent.
